EGGS The eggs of the Campine are white. While this breed was developed for egg production, some of today’s stock has been breed for plumage at the expense of productivity.

The Welsummer is renowned for the dark coloured, speckled eggs it lays combined with the very typical rich warm ‘jungle fowl’ plumage it exhibits. Well known as a layer of many eggs, some strains are also capable of supplying a reasonable amount of meat for the table.

The combination of their temperament, production, and ease of care make them an excellent breed for the beginner. The pure breeds developed for egg laying.

HEN: The New Hampshire Red hen has a fairly consistent shade of chestnut red throughout her plumage with the lower neck feathers tipped in black. With a neat five point single comb, medium sized wattles and broad well rounded body she ideally weighs around.

TEMPERAMENT: The Barnevelder has a placid nature and if handled carefully by the keeper it will become tame and trusting. They are tolerant towards each other plus they will exist happily within a mixed flock of breeds.

The Lakenvelder (also known as the Lakenfelder) is a striking looking breed which is both an excellent layer and has very reasonable table qualities. Its belted markings give it a very distinct appearance and it is believed that the breed dates back over 150 years.
