“ Season of mists and mellow fruitfulness…” The English romantic poet, John Keats, published his ode to autumn in September 1819 - over 200 years ago! He was just 23 when he wrote it and only 25 when he died. 
The more things change, the more they remain the same? Superficially, perhaps. 
The seasons remain the same but the climate has changed significantly and so have the pesticides. 
Food production has become ultra processed so that most ‘ordinary’ food tastes pleasant and is affordable, yet it is far less nutritious and now potentially toxic. Obesity is now a massive problem, literally, while Type 2 Diabetes is a huge yet largely preventable condition.
Breaking News adds figures to that topic while the Gardening and Recipe sections offer healthy organic alternatives. 
Diet, exercise and mental health - it’s not rocket science. Healthy body, healthy mind - the concept is available to all of us.

Of the earth, earthy! This is a particularly down-to-earth edition of Health Triangle magazine. 
As always, there is universal concern for planet Earth itself - including Awakening to Earth’s Call, Mother Earth Day and Global Youth Service Day. 
However, closer to home there are also features on more immediate opportunities - and threats. Whatever else, it will not be dull!

This bumper issue of Health Triangle Magazine remains totally apolitical. We are concerned exclusively with your health and personal well-being - from cradle to grave! NHS focuses on daily dental health from Milk Teeth onwards. 
J J Stenhouse provides her personal tribute to her recently departed friend and outstanding co-presenter Dr Mark Goulston. 
Poetry Corner features a poem by Longfellow entitled ‘The Tide rises, the Tide falls’ suggesting an unchanging constancy. Yet the water is less cold now than it was when the poem was written - but still cold enough to consider the benefits of an Ice Swim.

Change is not always for the better! 
And the air is more polluted than when the poem was written - yet contributors contend that a thoughtful diet can reduce its impact, as can proprietary gels.

New broadcaster on UK Health Radio and new contributor to the magazine, Dr Howard Rankin, makes the case for getting real when it comes to making New Year resolutions. Historical experience shows that making lasting changes to old habits requires much more than just wishful thinking!
Another new radio show presenter sharing her truth, in written form for the first time, is our very own Raphaela Ilgenfritz. Hers is not an easy story but Trish Beaver has told it simply and clearly, in good and honest style.
Likewise Johann Ilgenfritz joined other CEOs in spending a November night sleeping rough in central London. In doing so, he raised both Awareness and Funds.
We cannot change a single second of what is past. But one new day at a time, we all have a fresh chance with what Mary Oliver once described as our ‘one wild and precious life’.

Today sofi.health, a newcomer to UK Health Radio, is applying rigorous discipline in order to present ‘Nature’s science for modern medicine’, with regular individual feedback from an online community some 15,000 strong!
Since the global pandemic in recent years, health has become everyone’s single biggest issue - physical health and mental health and the synergy between the two.
The power of the mind is acknowledged time and time again in this issue. Joanne-Divine Life Yogini offers optimism is her passionate ‘dark night of the soul’ article. Niki Cassar and others acknowledge that the power to heal all our dis-ease is available within us.
Dr Spiegel and others believe we can and should access it ourselves. How better to deal with potentially debilitating stress or anxiety than by identifying it clearly? And perhaps recording it on a daily basis in a personal journal?
Our only indisputable power is over our own attitudes towards the problems which confront us. And the behaviour which is born of those attitudes. It is not realistic to imagine any individual among us can solve the war in Ukraine or in Gaza or anywhere else on earth. 
In Henry V, Shakespeare glorifies war with the idea that the ‘youth of England is on fire.’
More realistically he says: ‘Now thrive the armourers!’ 
And the Funeral directors, too, of course.

“Matters of Life and Death ”
This of Health Triangle magazine is more than usually reflective of mortality. That is not for one second to suggest that it is morbid in any way!
UK Health Radio star presenter, Mark Goulston, writes about his realistic reaction to a diagnosis of an incurable condition. He has his own personal plan for a good death and he is executing it in stoical style. 
Exemplary advice!
Breaking News highlights the appalling and unacknowledged fate of literally hundreds of children and young people apparently lost in wildfires in Hawaii.
Joyce Grayson celebrated her great life of 90 years, while her nephew Barry Graham acknowledged her great age with original life-affirming poetry.
In Yes to Life, Dr Adeel Khan reveals how natural Killer cells called KC for short can be extracted, boosted and reintroduced - to kill cancer cells!
In TV review, Painkiller records the shocking activity of a big player in the Opioid scandal.
The NHS feature focuses on the most common cancer for women - breast cancer.

This is the specific topic for the NHS feature in this month’s edition of Health Triangle Magazine. Yet it could be an over-arching theme for the world in which we all now find ourselves - internationally with war in Europe and the threat of war with China, locally with the potential impact of Climate Change and the possible collapse of traditional law and order. 
Unlike mainstream media, Breaking News looks objectively at an independently established link between mRNA and excess deaths from myocarditis. The key point is that there is no point in losing sleep over things we cannot change - like the war in Ukraine or the tensions around Taiwan. Our responsibility is primarily to ourselves alone. This is the only area in which we have real control. What we think, what we eat, what exercise we take. What we put on our skin, into our heads or into our bodies.
From the cover onwards, you can see that we are 100% in favour of optimism. How can we make the best of our own reality? That Is the question we need to focus on and here you have a variety of sincere opinions. We are not asking you to accept them all unconditionally, word for word. We are asking you to consider them all, with an open mind. Contempt prior to investigation is neither scientific nor rational. The test may come if the World Health Organisation declares a new global emergency. Will you still accept that mRNA injections really are as safe and effective as Dr Fauci once claimed? Or that there is any conclusive evidence for the benefits of wearing masks?

June in the UK this year has been the hottest on record and climate experts are now suggesting that this may the new normal in the immediate future.
If so, pure water and good hydration (NHS feature) will become increasingly important in all our future health programmes, as will avoiding any excess of ultra processed foods - even though they cost less, taste better and last longer than more nutritional alternatives! (Breaking News)
Like supermarket Meal Deals, the ‘bargain’ appeal is a double-edged sword. The rise in obesity in the West is solid evidence of an increasing problem. The tastes developed in childhood for sugar and salt inevitably make dietary best practice more difficult to adopt in adulthood. 

Poetry Corner looks at one man’s whimsical vision of his ideal world, while the piece on Chris Grimes’ most recent Improv workshop in France explores his virtually limitless practical possibilities for imagination and positivity. 
‘Yes to Life’ offers more courses than usual in exploring more integrative approaches to cancer treatment.

“Make no small plans!”                                     
This edition of Health Triangle is brimming with ideas about making changes for the better. ‘Joie de Vivre’ is the elixir we seek - through sensible self-care, healthy food and regular exercise. The only charge we can ever guarantee is one that relates exclusively to ourselves. You can take a horse to water but you cannot make it drink! No one can force us to do anything. Our lives are own responsibility. Even how we choose to end them. Right now, let’s enjoy the green leaves of Summer and the Earth in all its bounteous abundance.

The Powers that Be…?

Human beings have always been curious. Have always looked for causes of problems and sought meaning in life. Now it feels that we may have moved into a Post Truth era where the mainstream media has a vested interest in toeing the party line rather than challenging the conventional narrative. 
UK Health Radio and Health Triangle Magazine both treasure their total independence from either party politics or shareholder pressure. Our broadcasters and feature-writers enjoy an open platform from which to express their honest and informed opinions.
In Yes to Life, for example, Mark Lintern and Robin Daly discuss at length Mark’s new personal research on Cancer. It’s fascinating stuff. At the other end of the spectrum, the NHS feature focuses on Restless Legs Syndrome. Rare but still fascinating!

Alcohol-free drink that you can make yourself at home or buy across the counter, seduced by the advertising idea ‘All of the fizz. None of the hangover.’ This reminded me of a classic cartoon where a long-suffering wife asks her incorrigible husband what he really wants out of life, to which he replies: ‘All the puddings I can eat, without getting fat!’ Time to get real, dear reader. Certainly not time to catastrophise. Time instead to absorb good information and modify your behaviour for your own benefit and the benefit of those around you. To hope for the best and to be careful where you put your feet - or your vote!

From adolescents with their statutorily disturbed schooling to the very elderly isolated in their care homes, mental health issues have been centre stage at every stage for the last two years. 
This edition takes a realistic look at a variety of topics starting with an incurable and primarily adolescent problem - acne. “Compare and despair” is an appropriate truism. “Life on life’s terms” remains good advice. “Settle for who you are and what you’ve got.” Cultivate your quiet mind.
Alcohol consumption has increased dramatically  in response to the stress that has confronted everyone during and post Covid. You will find editorial and advertising encouragement for alcohol-free alternatives. But if you are dealing with diabetes and imagine that sugar-free fizzy drinks might be a good choice for you, please think again. 
Cancer was another crucially important condition that was over-shadowed by the relentless focus on Covid. 
Diabetes and Cancer have always got the columns they deserve every month in this magazine. This will continue - as well as an abundance of honest expert opinion and good scientific information. 
On a lighter note, I came back from my long weekend in Verteillac listening to three brilliant young pianists from England, Spain and Germany, with a short Zen poem that I would like to share with you:
