Sundarban Tiger Reserve (2,585 Sq Kms) was created in the year 1973 under "Project Tiger" by the Ministry of Environment and Forest, Government of India, designating 1,330 sq kms out of this as the core zone subsequently in the year 1987. It was also declared as World heritage site by UNESCO in 1987. Sundarban is the only Tiger Reserve of India which does not harbour Leopards.

Blue skies. Tree-fringed banks surrounded by lush green agricultural fields and lapped by the gentle embrace of the Cauvery. Trees speckled with the colourful plumage of birds.
