Slow traveller Caspar David Friedrich liet de natuur en het landschap langzaam -stap voor stap- op zich inwerken. Friedrich wilde heel bewust ervaren wat hij zag, het voelen en het laten inwerken op zijn geest en vast ook op zijn ziel. Soms zou je willen dat een kunstenaar er nog was, dat je de kans had een dag met hem door te brengen, om te luisteren naar wat hij vindt en te ervaren wat hij ziet en voelt. De magische beelden van Caspar David Friedrich roepen dat op. Zijn schilderijen zijn veelal samengesteld uit schetsen van jaren her, in combinatie met wat hij recent zag en tekende. Wat wilde Caspar David Friedrich zeggen met zijn werk, wat was zijn diepste doel en zijn meest fundamentele wens? Wat was zijn zoektocht? Hij wordt geroemd om de bovenste laag van zijn schilderijen, om het genie van zijn luchten en wolkenpartijen. Er zit zoveel lading in zijn werk dat er op elke plek van een doek inspiratie te vinden is. Raadselachtig en raak. De tinten in zijn werken tonen een groot inzicht in de kleuren en geuren van de natuur. Inspirator van Samuel Beckett en Walt Disney. Religieus en radicaal. De belangrijkste schilder van de Duitse Romantiek, gezien als voorloper van het Impressionisme. Zijn tijd vooruit. Dresden was zijn thuisstad en vanaf augustus eert de stad zijn 250ste geboortejaar. Groots, vol lading, zoals het hoort. 

In deze soms complexe tijden speelt kunst wellicht een zelfs grotere rol dan anders. Kunst ‘tilt de mens op’. Het geeft een moment van emotie, vaak positief. Een stimulans. De zon. Er is licht, de geest wordt verlicht. Natuurlijk portretteert de kunst ook de duistere kanten van het zijn. Dat is ook haar haar plicht. Kunst stelt vragen. De kant die de mens verlicht overheerst. Grote werken van oorlog en verdriet, ze zijn overal in musea te zien. Echter ook beeld van jeugd, geschenken der natuur, van de rijke dis, of van betoverend landschap. Het doet de zon schijnen in het hart. De National Gallery Athens is hier een goed voorbeeld van. Natuurlijk werk van overwinningen op de Turken, van de zeeslagen die de maritieme Grieken succes brachten. Het grotere deel van het getoonde echter, is kunst die het leven uitdraagt en uitdaagt. Prachtig werk. Tegenover het Hilton hotel, minder bekend dan de grote Griekse musea, een bezoek zeker waard. Boijmans van Beuningen is het museum aan het verbouwen. Om de collectie zowel te stallen als te blijven tonen aan het publiek heeft men het Depot als tijdelijk huis. Het is wat het zegt, een depot. In een fraai gevormd gebouw, de zigzagtrappen à la Giovanni Piranesi binnen. Glazen liften. Collectie in opslag zichtbaar. Kunst getoond in een soort industriële omgeving van een depot. De video lichtinstallatie van Pipilotti Rist buiten het Depot Boijmans Van Beuningen roomt het af. Een mix van tint en beeld bespelen het gebouw en plein ervoor. Kunst is het licht. De zon. Een special over het Musée d’Orsay in Parijs. In Berlijn kent men het Hamburger Bahnhof. Nu museum voor moderne kunst. Parijs heeft het Musée d’Orsay. Ook voormalig station. Het Orsay combineert de krachtige architectuur die stations zo eigen kan zijn met haar Franse origine. Elegantie hoort er dus bij. Het Orsay behoort tot de meest vooraanstaande musea ter wereld. Het bezoek is een ode aan de kunst, van Art Deco tot sculpturen van Rodin en een collectie schilderkunst die een reis inhoudt langs Renoir, werken van Manet, Monet, Raffaëlli , O’Connor, Toulouse-Lautrec, Van Gogh, Gaugain, Cézanne, Degas en veel anderen. De lichtval van de overkapping van het voormalige station voegt zijn dimensie toe aan hoe men de kunst ervaart. De presentatie van Claude Monet, Étretat : la plage et la porte d'Amont is hier een excellent voorbeeld van: zonneschijn van boven lijkt het weer op het strand positief te beïnvloeden. Diner of lunch in het Orsay is een aanrader. Fresco's van Gabriel Ferrier en Benjamin Constant op de hoge plafonds van het restaurant dat de naam van het museum draagt leiden de bezoekers met recht soms af van de smaakvolle dis. Dit museum verdient een plek in de stedentrip naar parijs, ook met de kids.

We verhaalden er al eerder over. Een collectie met grote zorg bijeengebracht door het echtpaar Nélie Jacquemart en Edouard André. Zij huisden zelf, collectie incluis, aan de Boulevard Haussmann in een hôtel particulier, een voormalig stadspaleis. Een aardige omgeving voor een museum, dus. Heropening na verbouwing na de zomer 2024. Staat u mij toe voor 2024 een trip Parijs te adviseren.
