This month we look back in time to the glory of the Byzantine Empire, from simple wonders like the cuisine of the time to the last Emperor and his valiant attempt to hold the great city of Constantinople. We also journey to Morea, where the yoke of the Ottoman occupation was finally broke some 368 years later. We are excited and privileged to share with you this month an interview with the Greece’s new Minister of Culture, Lydia Koniordou.  Appointed in November of 2016, she has taken the reigns of a department that oversees the protection of Greek culture  - no small task for a country that has tens of thousands of years of documented history, culture and tradition.  We wish her good fortune, not only for her, but for all of Greece and its amazing treasures.

We also had the opportunity to speak with Vasilis Tsikaras, director of the film EXODOS 1826, the first film made in over 46 years about Greece’s fight for independence from its Ottoman occupiers.

We are pleased to share a special feature this month on the 150th Anniversary of the National Archaeological Museum in Greece. With their special exhibition Odysseus, the Museum continues on their journey of celebrating Hellenism! It's also the start of Apokries, now through February 26. Costumes, songs, and celebrations throughout Greece will abound and we share a special celebration from the island of Amorgos and a wonderful lenten recipe from Aglaia Kremezi, author of "Mediterranean Vegetarian Feasts" which she wrote from her home on the island of Kea.
