RCR Arquitectes From Spain Honoured.
Catalan architects Rafael Aranda, Carme Pigem and Ramon Vilalta of RCR Arquitectes have been selected as the 2017 Pritzker Prize winners. This is first time that three architects have been honoured with the prize, as well as being the second-time a laureate has gone to Spain, the first being Rafael Moneo in 1996.
The team’s designs include the Muraba Residences on Dubai’s Palm Jumeirah. “The jury has selected three architects who have been working collaboratively for nearly three decades. Aranda, Pigem and Vilalta have had an impact on the discipline far beyond their immediate area,” said Tom Pritzker, chairman of the Hyatt Foundation, which sponsors the award.
“Their work ranges from public and private spaces to cultural venues and educational institutions, and their ability to intensely relate the environment specific to each site is a testament to their process and deep integrity.”
