It all started with a simple beep on my phone. This time around, it was neither an SMS nor a Whatsapp message. It was a Facebook message that landed straight into my inbox. The message came from an unknown person who was not even a part of my friend's list. Facebook has a special inbox for such people, so I initially did see the message as a high priority. But later in that day, I became a little bored and decided to peruse my not-so-popular inbox just to block out all the annoying spammers. One often receives such messages from people claiming to be born in South Africa but currently staying in Dubai, all this in an attempt to sell you either forex or bitcoin opportunities.
Well, to my surprise I received a message that would probably live in my memory for many years to come. A 15yr old boy by the name of Luzuko had taken his mother, Mathapelo Nkambule’s phone, and started to browse through her Facebook friends list. And by pure random selection, Luzuko happened to come across my Facebook profile. He then decided to write me a message which read something I haven’t seen in the year I need your help if you could 21 March it’s my mum’s birthday I want it to be special I don’t how since we are broke I thought I could ask for help please we are in Mpumalanga Elukwatini that’s my mum in the picture and in my profile too”
