Amid all the buzz of electric vehicles this magazine has been having for the past couple issues, in comes another in the form of the Audi e-tron. At this rate, it’s more a fact of life than a flash in the pan, so it’s best to probably just get used to regular coverage of electric vehicles now onwards. This one, however, is a little different.
What immediately got me hooked wasn’t the fact that the e-tron showcased to us was quite nice to look at. It wasn’t even its funky charging point access, or the fact that it’s been inundated with features. Instead, it was a very key piece of information that the then Audi India head, Rahil Ansari, mentioned to us as casually as it was brimming with confidence: ‘We’ll be targeting sales of over 200 units of the e-tron.’ So what, you might ponder. Well, consider the fact that Audi will sell the e-tron in India for nothing less than a crore, and revisit that sales figure. It’s one thing to just spout a figure like 200 units and hope for the best, but this is Audi we’re talking about here. Reams of research will have been done before Rahil Ansari had the confidence to commit to such a figure.
