The Duncombe Park Steam Rally near Helmsley, North Yorkshire, was held on 1-2 July. Organised by The Great Yorkshire Traction Engine Club, the annual steam gathering had something for all, says David Reed.
The rally is a family event that attracts large crowds, and although the various steam machines that were being displayed are a huge draw, the tractors are particularly well represented in this rural area. Especially impressive were the Ferguson/MF and Ford line-ups.
The first that caught my eye were a French-built 1954 Ferguson TE-K 20 vineyard and John Parkin of Borough bridge’s 1948 TE-A 20 – a tractor that has been the subject of an on-going restoration project for the past 15 years.
Shane Blezard’s Marshal Plan 1947 Ford-Ferguson 2N, another that stood out, was imported from France in 2007 and was stripped and rebuilt in 2014, with a Sherman step-up transmission fitted providing six gears and a top speed of 23mph.
