In that article, he mentioned that he made his living converting newer, water cooled VW’s into campers to rent out, and we thought that we’d take a closer look. Phil lives in a wonderful part of the world, North Devon, just off the Atlantic Highway. It’s a simple matter for customers to drive down, park up their dull, daily driver and head off further south, into the wild, blue yonder!
This 2012 T5 was bought recently, it was a well-maintained panel-van and was selected specifically to be converted into a camper. As always, it was to showcase their latest conversion.
‘Pareidolia’ for some folk is seeing faces in clouds, others apparently see words on number-plates... So, and I’ll let Phil explain, “The plate reads RE12, so ‘Ray’ sprang to mind, and as you know ‘Everyone loves Raymond’”.
‘Ray’ is a 1986cc TDi with 102 bhp, and came from the factory in white with a fitted electric pack. The wheels were the first things to be uprated and are now 16” Colmar alloys shod in quality 215/65X16 Hankooks. You have probably spotted that the suspension has not been lowered as this is about creating a vehicle that is practical to use rather than a very cool bus to win show prizes.

Lance & Lisa Beaver tell the story of their...‘Old School' Westfalia Bay
The history of our bus is varied. I heard that it used to belong to a soccer player who lived in it for a while, and a tale of a cross country trip that was taken in it. Since we’ve owned it, we have been to numerous car shows with our car club Kahiko Kula and enjoy that immensely, but taking it camping is our joy.
