“In 2010 we borrowed a T4 to visit Busfest and camped out with the Airheads”
DAVE RICHARDS
Indian Blue Street Sleeper

That’s the name of the Volkswagen club which some friends of ours were involved with, and after spending just three fun days in what was previously an AA Rescue van, we have been hooked on VW’s ever since”.

It took Nick Jones until 2017 before he began looking seriously and he spent several months searching intensely before he found this fine specimen. It was for sale in London, had previously been used for transporting motorcycles to race meetings and was almost totally stock.

“It was a nice straight, original bus, it was very solid and ticked all the right boxes. I could see that it was a good base vehicle and would be ideal for the conversion I had in mind. I wanted the bus to be capable of transporting three push bikes together with their riders and also have somewhere to rest, relax and have something to eat before and after rides. It had to be strong, practical, versatile and easy to use. It also had to work properly so that we could take it away for family camping holidays so I also had to have somewhere for our son to be able to sleep. There are no cupboards in the rear passenger compartment of the bus, just a full width Rock n Roll bed and a couple of revolving Captain’s Chairs which were re-upholstered in full Golf GTi style by Celtic Motorhomes.

Lance & Lisa Beaver tell the story of their...‘Old School' Westfalia Bay

The history of our bus is varied. I heard that it used to belong to a soccer player who lived in it for a while, and a tale of a cross country trip that was taken in it. Since we’ve owned it, we have been to numerous car shows with our car club Kahiko Kula and enjoy that immensely, but taking it camping is our joy.
