Liquid Assets

As Christmas draws nearer, CARA SHRIVASTAVA takes a look at some of Goa’s local hotspots that add to the joyous hubbub of the season.

Liquid Assets

A TRUE-BLUE Goan doesn’t need a reason to find a pub, have a conversation and just sit back and relax. Then again, ‘tis the season to be jolly, make merry and rejoice! Is there a better time of the year, to have a drink or two? (Don’t answer that, let’s keep it rhetorical.)

The Goan winter has already begun to set in and the nights tend to get quite chilly. Keeping oneself warm became a bit of a dilemma, but not for long. The answer was simple, really. Some serious pub-hopping!

The tourist season is already in full swing; but we decided to focus on some pubs that the locals themselves visit often.

Cafe Mojo

If you want to draw in locals, you’re going to have to be innovative. Alcohol is available at every other bar, but if you’ve got unique concepts, you’ve got a crowd. Cafe Mojo is India’s first E-Beer pub! With beer taps available on tables, you pour your own beer, directly into your glass. This means, you only pay for what you drink, by the ml, not by the glass. The little pub opened up in 2012, and is located in the capital city itself. Their decor is cozy and gives offEnglish pub vibes, making for a fun night out for those who just wish to catch a few tunes and have an easy conversation over some drinks.

The pub also serves up some great food, right from ‘snackey’ bites, to a proper meal. One of their most popular nights of late, are Wednesdays – Ladies Night. With free martinis before 12, and shots after, the pub promises to make that midweek slump a little easier to get through.

If you’re not the biggest drinker or dancer, don’t worry. Cafe Mojo has a pool table, and a foosball table, available upstairs.
