About five migrant workers from Bihar, were injured when a bomb exploded in Manipur's Ukhrul district on Monday, i.e., April 3. The blast took place at around 6:30 pm near the Viewland Church in the heart of the town, 80 km north east of Imphal. The improvised Explosive Device (IED) exploded from under a handcart at a spot between Phungreitang and Viewland Church.
While the motive behind the IED attack was not known, police speculated that it could be related to an extortion threat. It created a small crater in the roadside. According to the sources from the Hospital, the condition of two of them is critical and were shifted to Imphal on Tuesday, April 4. They were identified as Sanjoy Kumar Prashad (30) a cart puller and Manga Mahito (52) a shop keeper. The other injured people, who are migrant workers from Bihar, are shop-keepers and daily-wage earners. The injured mostly sustained minor injuries on their leg and back. The officer said the victims were shopkeepers and were taken to the Ukhrul district hospital where they were treated by doctors. Vikash Kumar, the construction labourer, was working in the residential complex when the bomb blast occurred near a gate of the engineer's house, the police said.
