These products then take their way to dump yards or into water bodies like seas or oceans. That's the end. They can't be decomposed like organic waste nor can they be reutilised as a raw material for making other products just like we do with most of the metals. The only way to get rid of them is to incinerate them, which gives rise to a completely new issue i.e., atmospheric pollution or just hang them out to dry for hundreds of years.
It is becoming a huge issue in Asian and African nations, where garbage collection systems are unordered and inefficient. That doesn't make it a problem to ease upon for "Developed Nations". Because, the low recycling rates are still a high priority issue for everyone around the globe.
It is true that plastic has revolutionised human life and living. We couldn't imagine our times without plastic. It is used almost everywhere, in medicine, transportation, everyday activities and what not. We are accustomed to its usage that we have forgot about its perishability. We have and are utilising plastic in almost everything. From chocolates costing a few rupees to life-saving devices in hospitals. The plastic bags, food wrappers, disposable straws and cutlery like spoons and forks etc. are almost meant for single usage. I don't think we could afford such luxury anymore.
