The True Sense Of Liberation Which Higher Education Brings For Women

Education is empowering. Education is up-lifting. Education is liberating. It places the educated one on a higher plane, a different pedestal. When it comes to women, the so called fairer gender, the role of education takes on a ‘bigger’ meaning altogether. There is a much wider canvass it caters to, a much bigger picture which emerges due to the empowerment it offers to a woman. Times are a changing, no doubt. But why just in a country like India, the entire world over, the man is still mostly taken as the breadwinner of the house. He is taken as the person who takes care of the family and if the lady of the house is also working (outside the home), her salary and emoluments are taken as a bonus income (in most households). Thus, it is taken for granted that the boys will go in for higher studies and thereby, earn a livelihood for their families to thrive in. Women may or may not go in for higher studies, depending upon several factors. Of course, in some segments of our society women are siphoned off early in the day by wedlock. And some get an opportunity to empower themselves with higher education. They are the lucky ones.
