Gaming, manufacturing operations, asset management, connected healthcare, intelligent transportation system, and environmental monitoring and detection are five key areas that will have a major impact due to emerging telecommunication technologies in the days to come. “This will disrupt and transform the economy,” KPMG Partner and National Sector Leader for telecommunications KG Purushothaman said. He was speaking at the 20th Voice&Data Telecom Leadership Forum.
Delivering the special address on the role of telecommunication in rebooting the economy in the post-pandemic new normal, Purushothaman highlighted that while businesses need to anticipate for the future and deliver today, the telecom sector has played a strong role in this journey serving as the backbone of the economy. He also pointed out the uninterrupted connectivity provided by telcos ensured business continuity and in keeping the human race connected with each other globally during the difficult time.
“Telecom has always been known as a connectivity provider and during the last one-year, the sector has not only shown tremendous revenue growth for itself but also its ancillary sectors,” he said, stressing that the sector has posted a standalone growth of 14-15%, while together with its ancillary sectors it has posted a phenomenal combined growth of 30-35%. “Further, the fact that the global IP traffic is expected to go up to nearly 400 exabyte by 2021 says a lot about how everyone has communicated during the pandemic.”
