Our columnist follows the adventures of Jane the Virgin.
ADM ADM ADM!!!!!!!!!!!
These were the last notes I wrote during my Jane the Virgin binge sesh, the result of a show dive so deep I found myself making up Spanglish acronyms. For the first few episodes, I wrote “OMG” so many times that I had to figure out a way to distinguish the levels of OMGs. Thus, I took a cue from the show itself, and acronymed its oft-used phrase “¡Ay dios mío!” And there was no greater cause for a triptych of ADMs than the season 4 finale cliffhanger. But first! Back to the beginning …
WEEK ONE
Jane (Gina Rodriguez) is a wide-eyed 20-something, dreaming of being a writer while working at a Miami hotel. And, yes, she is a virgin, making her cop boyfriend, Michael (Brett Dier), wait until marriage. But then she goes to the gynecologist for a checkup and is accidentally inseminated with the swimmers of her former crush/current boss, Rafael (Justin Baldoni), whose wife, Petra (Yael Grobglas), was trying to get pregnant without him knowing. Oh, and the doctor who inseminated her is Rafael’s sister, Luisa (Yara Martinez), and she’s deeply unhinged. I know, it’s insane, but it’s insane on purpose, because it’s an Americanized telenovela, and the narrator never lets you forget that. And OMG, that narrator (Anthony Mendez) is divine. If I could have anyone narrate my everyday existence, it would be this guy.
