With just a matter of weeks to go before this year’s X Factor returns to our screens, the new team of judges – Robbie Williams and wife Ayda Field, Louis Tomlinson and Simon Cowell – sparks a backlash

Back for its 15th series, the new-look X Factor line-up was announced to a fanfare of publicity – and quickly caused controversy among fans. The inclusion of husband and wife judges Robbie Williams and Ayda Field sparked the most negative comments, with critics airing their anger online, one posting, “What sort of expertise does Ayda have exactly? How to be in a sham marriage to a washed-up pop star?” Another wrote, “I can’t believe people still watch this show. X Factor’s had its day.”

But during the show’s launch, boss Simon Cowell was adamant it would be a hit with viewers, saying, “The three of them are going to bring a whole new energy.” Closer joined the new team at the show launch to find out what’s in store…
