Priyanka, many successful actors from India have not had any great desire to go global. Yes we do have an Anil Kapoor doing 24 in the US and a Kabir Bedi doing a Sandokan in Italy, but they weren’t crazy busy in their own country at the time. You have been quoted saying, ‘I know that sounds absolutely crazy, but I’m going to make it work. I can’t and won’t let either one go, even if it kills me.’ Why this passion to break the cultural glass ceiling?
“My passion is to push the boundaries of my creativity and talent. At the heart of it all, I am an entertainer and that’s what I love to do... entertain people, irrespective of the geography or the medium. That is what drives me! My career graph is filled with moves that were often deemed as professional suicide by one and all… but somehow those big risks have worked for me. I love to be challenged and I love to offer my audience something new as often as I can, so moves such as Quantico stem from that.” I think that there are many people who are more talented and better for the job than me, but I’m grateful to have had the right opportunities internationally. I hope that I can break the cultural glass ceiling for Indian talent to get the opportunities that I believe we deserve. I work very hard to ensure there is a balance between Hindi movies and everything else I do because for me, Hindi movies were never just a stepping stone, but more like my heart and soul.”
How are the work cultures different in the two countries? What does one NOT get away with there? What do you like about the work culture here... and miss over there?
