As a powerhouse and the last word on the business of fashion, what currently energises your inspirations and passions?

“Some people see fashion as frivolous and superficial. I see it as a way to effect change. Fashion is now a US$2.5 trillion global industry and a pillar of popular culture. Fashion imagery and messaging is beamed all around the world on social media, reaching hundreds of millions of people. And as such, the fashion industry has the ability to have a positive impact on the world around us. Each year at our VOICES gathering in Oxfordshire, we bring together 150 of the best minds from within and outside fashion to discuss what is happening in the wider world and how fashion can play a role in shaping it. This year, we are discussing the rise of the all-powerful technology companies, the breakdown of Western democracies in America and Europe, and the urgent climate change crisis. These are the most important issues of our time.”

How do you, personally, define luxury?

“For me, luxury is all about time and space. We are so inundated with smartphone notifications, advertising messages and urban noise, that having time and space to reflect, relax and recuperate is a true luxury.”

The definition of luxury constantly evolves – what do you believe are some of the key priorities amongst the fashion community in the luxury landscape?
