USEFUL tips for new investors eyeing the Johannesburg Stock Exchange.

The Secret To Investing

ACTOR Ashton Kutcher is one of the most successful celebrity investors when it comes to playing the stock market, followed by comedian Will Ferrell, former NBA player Magic Johnson and lead singer of the Irish music group U2, Bono.

Although the stock market is Mpho Ledwaba risky, it’s a rewarding option and can grow your profit margins… If you play them right.

South Africa has mature capital markets that serve the domestic economy and the wider continent. The Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE) is currently ranked the 19th largest stock exchange in the world by market capitalisation and the largest exchange on the African continent. If you are tinkering with the idea of investing on the JSE but aren’t quite sure where or how to start, Mpho Ledwaba, head of marketing at the JSE, says take advice from friends and family with a pinch of salt and instead find a stockbroker who can provide you with tailored financial advice for your investment journey. This is important, because before you put down a cent, ask yourself what you hope to achieve through your investment. Are you planning for your retirement or trying to create a nest egg for your children’s education? Perhaps you are trying to set aside money for a dream holiday. Your investment objectives will influence the time horizon for your investment (how long you plan to invest for).
