The first woman to join the Indian Police Service, she is currently making waves as the Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry. Truly, Kiran Bedi is nothing short of a legend.
Kiran Bedi made history when she became the first woman to join the Indian Police Service (IPS). Tough, no-nonsense and by-the-book, she earned the nickname ‘Crane Bedi’ during her tenure. This stemmed from the fact that she would have cars lifted out of ‘No Parking’ zones with cranes even those belonging to VVIPs.
Kiran began her career as the Assistant Superintendent of Police in Chanakyapuri, Delhi. When appointed as Inspector General, she introduced several reforms at Tihar Jail which gained worldwide acclaim. She was the first Indian woman to be appointed as a Police Advisor to the Secretary-General of the United Nations, in the Department of Peacekeeping Operations.
