They were one of the world’s most powerful couples, regularly mixing with celebrities and US presidents while never putting a foot wrong during their 27 years of marriage. But after Bill and Melinda Gates announced they were divorcing, the Microsoft founder has been plagued by scandal and it may cost him his fortune.
When the pair announced their split through a joint statement on Twitter on May 3, they said they “no longer believe we can grow together as a couple in this next phase of our lives”. However, they will continue to work together at their charity, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. While the split appeared amicable, within days cracks started to emerge with sordid secrets from the past surfacing against Bill, 65. These included details of affairs, allegations of sexual misconduct and details about his friendship with Jeffrey Epstein.
