When Bojana Novakovic arrived back in Australia to film the second season of Binge’s hit series Love Me, she admits there wasn’t a day that went by that she didn’t get stopped somewhere in Melbourne. “But it wasn’t kind of like the, ‘Oh my God, you’re on TV,’ stopping,” she explains to WHO via Zoom from her home base in New York. “It was women stopping me to talk about the story and about [my character] Clara, and about being a single, 40-year-old woman in Melbourne.
“We really do delve deep into the human condition and into human relationships, and into sort of the coexistence of death and love and grief,” the 41-year-old continues. “And these are things that people don’t necessarily want to talk about. And so I guess when they see you, the fact that they want to go there and talk to you – a complete stranger on the street – about something that is a universally human experience is really touching.”
The drama series certainly does pull on the heartstrings. Starring alongside fellow Aussies Hugo Weaving and Bob Morley, Novakovic plays Clara, a successful anaesthetist approaching 40 who in the first season is attempting to navigate her love life while balancing a busy career, and the emotional effect of losing her headstrong and standoffish mother.
