When Kristen Bell agreed to star in a comedy about two housewives who create a multimillion-dollar coupon scam, she wasn’t just looking for the laughs. “It’s also a great opportunity to shed a light on infertility and women who feel overlooked,” says Bell, 41, who is known for her relatability and honest attitude to taboo topics like depression and anxiety, as much as she is for her roles in Frozen, Gossip Girl, The Good Place and Veronica Mars.
Married eight years to Parenthood and Top Gear America star Dax Shepard, the couple have daughters, Lincoln, 8, and Delta, 7. Both hailing from divorced families, this adorable duo entered into their own marriage with eyes wide open, saying the key to their happy union is communication.
In her new role in Queenpins, Bell plays the very opposite – an unhappily wed woman whose husband neglects her as she longs for a baby. Inspired by a true story, Queenpins is an outrageous comedy about Bell’s bored and frustrated suburban homemaker, Connie Kaminski, and her best pal JoJo (Kirby Howell-Baptiste), who turn a hobby into a multimillion-dollar counterfeit coupon caper.
Co-starring Vince Vaughn and Paul Walter Hauser, with pop artist Bebe Rexha making her acting debut, Queenpins puts the sexy back into coupon clipping.
Here, Bell talks to WHO about lockdown style parenting, adoption, fertility, hitting her 40s … and coupons.
