Untold is the third release from Bristol-based producer Sophia Loizou, an intense exploration of sound that blends extreme field recordings, granular textures and ambient rhythms resulting in some of the most striking sonic textures committed to a hard drive…

SL: “I was about 19 when I started to compose music, while studying fine art. I’d been listening to electronic music while working on my art. I realised that what I was hearing in the sonic textures and gestures translated across to my mark-making. My last large scale series of paintings were visualisations of sound – I had started to hear the sounds differently. This was what sparked my interest in working with sound. I decided to teach myself about the technologies used to make music, which was pretty tough in the mid-90s. I started off with a cheap four-track and my voice, and then maybe a year or so later bought my first computer and a Korg X5 synth. I then relocated to study my undergraduate degree in Creative Music Technology at Bath Spa University. Most of the music I loved came from Bristol so I knew this was where I had to be.”
