There is a new version of Android in Tech Town. And as usual, interest is high about just what it brings to the table and whether it marks a new chapter in the history of the world’s most popular mobile operating system. And of course, there is also the usual debate abut just when different devices will get the new OS, if indeed some ever will. So as Android gets a Nougat Flavour, Anuj Bhatia takes a closer look at the new Os, what it offers and the devices that are running it.
These three words: data, cloud and ‘mobility’ sums up the digital world where we live in. In the age of digital transformation, where smartphones have positioned themselves as a lifeline for billions of people, communicating in the always-on, always-connected, cannot be escaped. Perhaps which is why we are fighting over the future of Android, the mobile operating system that runs on the majority of ‘connected devices, ranging from smartphones to tablets to smartwatches. Previously we had touched upon Android’s “fragmentation problem.” In this issue, it is all about Android 7.0 nougat - Google’s latest version of Android. nougat has been made official, and is a significant upgrade over Marshmallow (better known as Android 6.0). Google has continued to refine its mobile OS - and one could notice a number of small yet significant features in Android 7.0 including the split-screen mode. The other big changes include the ability to reply to incoming messages inside the notifications. And there are a ton of neat features that we are going to bring you up to speed with.
Android 7.0 nougat is the latest version of Google’s mobile operating system, used by billions of people worldwide. It is faster, improves battery life, brings better notification system, enables Google’s Daydream VR, while allowing split-screen functionality for Android devices. nougat, however, does not bring a visual Android overhaul. It still looks the same. If you have used a device running Android Marshmallow. Despite Google’s best efforts, Android 7.0 nougat‘s reach could be limited, with barely a few devices confirmed to get the latest update. We have been running Android 7.0 nougat on a Google nexus 6P, and here’s our final verdict.
