The Thamarai Kannan Temple

The Sri Pundarikakshan temple, popularly called as Tamarai Kannan temple is a hallowed and ancient Vaishnavaite shrine. It is located in Tiruvellarai village, in the outskirts of Tiruchi district in Tamilnadu. Tis temple resembles an old Fort and is perched on the top of a white-stone hillock in a vast 14 acre area. Tis temple is also called as ‘Swedhagiri’ (meaning white hill) and ‘Swetha Varaha Kshetram’ (dedicated to Lord Vishnu in His Varaha Avatar). Lord Vishnu is worshipped as Lord Pundarikakshan and His consort, Goddess Lakshmi, is worshipped as Goddess Pankajavalli in this temple.
