Virtual classes will prevent your child’s schoolwork from suffering during lockdown

E-Schools Are Open

Last year this time, parents were well back into the routine of getting their kids off to school in the morning after the holidays, and juggling drop-offs, pick-ups and extra-curricular activities.

This year, thanks to the lockdown, it’s an entirely different ballgame. Instead of delivering your child into the reliable hands of their schoolteacher, parents nationwide are having to step into the role of being the teachers.

Schools must now figure out how to deal with this unprecedented situation too, with teachers working around the clock to assist parents and learners.

The fact is parents need all the help they can get during this challenging time, and thankfully there’s plenty online – and a lot of it is free.

Here are some of the best zero-rated ( free) online resources you can use to supplement your child’s temporary home schooling, available to suit desktop PCs, tablets and mobile phones.

AFRICA TEEN GEEKS

Students nationwide can livestream classes by animated teacher Ms Zora via this project’s social media pages and YouTube channel.

Recorded by more than 1000 volunteer teachers and under the supervision of Amanda Calitz, lecturer at Wits University’s department of occupational therapy, the virtual science, technology, engineering and mathematics (Stem) classes are recorded and posted daily.

You can find a handy schedule of the one-hour classes and the times they’ll show on the founding company’s website – africa teengeeks.co.za

Where to find it YouTube: Africa Teen Geeks, facebook.com/AfricaTeenGeeks
