A couple of years ago, Niyati Sharma, who’s currently based in Delhi, went to Belgium as part of a year-long cultural exchange programme. “On one of the days in school there, we were made to fill out questionnaires about how sexually active we were, and the contraception methods we used. This was strange to me because sexual or reproductive health wasn’t spoken about at Indian schools,” recalls the 18-year-old girl, who has just taken her CBSE Class XII board exams. This proved to be the trigger, and Sharma resolved to address the taboo subject back home.
