There’s a lot to say about the female orgasm. Human sex-plorations of the elusive big O, have taken us on a voyage over the years. Ultimately, it’s the awkward moments and clumsy experiences that are recorded for posterity. The fact remains, while women today enjoy sex, not all of them climax during the act. In fact, intercourse is NOT the key to a woman’s sexual satisfaction, and there’s no one true science to orgasms.
Dr Debby Herbenick, professor of applied science at Indiana University, in a 2018 research study titled Women’s Experiences With Genital Touching, Sexual Pleasure, and Orgasm published in the Journal of Sex & Marital Therapy, states that different women process and react differently to different touches, and not all roads lead to moan. “Women are highly diverse when it comes to what turns them on, and what kinds of touch they find pleasurable. This underscores just how important it is for couples to explore together, to openly discuss sexual techniques, and share their desires with one another,” Herbenick said in an interview with an online portal.
Clearly, communication with one’s partner is key to heightening your sexual experience, as is being open to experimentation. Moreover, boredom and the fear that a sure-shot road to climax may start to illicit a rather lukewarm response, is likely to creep in after a while. “My partner and I have experienced that a position that previously worked, stopped having any arousal over time. Fortunately, he’s quite open to experimentation and new sex-periences. After some trial and error, and a few bumps, we find our rhythm,” says 31-year-old Priyanka Mohan*, a Mumbai-based yoga instructor.
