Switch Off, Turn On

Anuja Mitra, 30, has been married for five years now and dated her husband for six years before tying the knot. Theirs has been a relationship that people generally talk about when setting benchmarks for love. A whirlwind affair with its share of crazy hot sex followed by the bliss of a happily married life. Life seems picture perfect, right? Wrong. The reason: too much time spent on social media is taking away their focus from each other and, in turn, affecting their equation in bed.

There’s a good chance that you, like Anuja and all of us in this hyper connected world, are glued to your smartphone almost all your waking hours. More and more couples today are placing this dependence at the root cause of their paralysed sex lives. Delhi-based clinical sexologist Dr Deepak Arora says, “Social media is definitely affecting our sex lives, especially that of the millennials. Being online all the time takes away from the quality time that a person spends with their loved one. Instead of taking pleasure from the physical presence of their partner’s company, a lot of folks are more interested in their Facebook and WhatsApp updates.”
