This has been the year of the man in the beauty industry, with an explosion of trends, products and services aimed at the male species. Neeti Jaychander suggests you borrow these miracle-workers from his vanity case
We’ve borrowed their comfy flannel shirts, got ourselves a pair of boyfriend jeans, strapped their watches on our wrists, and even worn their boxers at night! For decades now, we’ve been liberally helping ourselves to things traditionally designed for men. And it’s time now to raid their closets for some fantastic beauty products and hacks. Here’s your guide to the best of his beauty stash.
Facial shaving
Sounds scary? Actually, facial shaving for women comes with loads of benefi ts. Dermaplaning is what it’s called, where a razor exfoliates the skin along with removing hair. It removes dead skin cells, gently exfoliates and makes your skin look smoother by getting rid of the tiny fuzzy hairs that you often ignore. One of the reasons men look so good after shaving is because they’ve rid themselves of a layer of grime and dead cells. Why should we deprive ourselves of the same benefi ts? Also, it’s a myth that hair grows back longer and thicker when you shave—only the texture changes. Always beware of ingrown hairs though, and keep your razors clean and sterilised.
Fragrances
Dainty flowers and zingy fruity scents can be boring and dated. Instead, smelling like your man—or ringing in the Old Spice nostalgia associated with your dad—is fun. Why should you always wait to be near your man to breathe in the delectable scents of sandalwood, cedarwood and patchouli? Better still, that whiff of vanilla, the trace of chypre, and the manly hint of leather? Men’s fragrances tend to be cleaner and fresher; with a good one, you always feel like you’ve just stepped out of a shower. Perfumes for ‘homme’ are not as heady and strong as their ‘femme’ counterparts. They’re also easier to layer, since they aren’t as complicated.
