Ruchika Sachdev had just moved from Mumbai to Bangalore to join a new workplace, and put a tumultuous marriage behind her. She was trying to find her feet again by concentrating on her career when she got a rude shock.

“Before I knew it, my new colleagues were talking behind my back, and their words had begun to take a toll on my mental wellbeing,” says the 28-year-old IT professional. Sachdev was unable to connect the dots until she overheard two colleagues talking about what went wrong in her marriage. “That conversation bordered on character assassination,” she says. Sachdev soon realised that a former co-worker had passed on spiced-up information to her current colleague, who had gleefully shared it with those with a similar taste for gossip.
