Driggers and Nogueira Stay Hot Through the Winter.
Kaleb Driggers and Junior Nogueira finished second in the team roping final world standings in 2016. Since then, their names haven’t been absent from any short go of significance. While it may be hyperbole to call it a revenge tour, they’re certainly not experiencing any runners-up slump.
Right out of the gate, they fourth at both the Sandhills Stock Show and Rodeo in Odessa, Texas, (Driggers passed the career $1 million in earnings mark there) and the Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo. Next, they tied for top spot at the Wildfire Open to the World in Salado. Finally, the duo made the short go at The American in Arlington, Texas, where they finished third.
“When we started roping together, our fast run was really good but our average run wasn’t that good,” Nogueira said. “I had to work on jackpot plans. We did better on that. Our fast run is going pretty good right now. Our horses are working good. We kind of got together. Everything is coming together. We are a lot better than last year.”
They finally broke through for a solo victory at the San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo after roping their final steer in 4.3 seconds—netting $21,602 per man. The win propelled them to third in the 2017 Weatherguard PRCA World Standings with $36,288.
