ANGEL OF DEATH

People thought of her as sweet, kind and loving – then the policewoman, who was regarded as a saint, was arrested for allegedly killing six members of her family

ANGEL OF DEATH

SHE took an oath to serve her country and community as a police officer and her family thought she was an angel. She was sweet and loving, the kind of person who’d go the extra mile to make those around her happy.

Her family members considered her “too good to be true” because of her kindness. And those words are now coming back to haunt them.

Behind closed doors, Nomia Rosemary Ndlovu, who was stationed at Thembisa South police station in Gauteng, was allegedly plotting murderous schemes.

The former constable, apparently at the mercy of loan sharks, allegedly carved a bloody swathe through her loved ones so she could cash in on their insurance policies.

An alleged six-year killing spree, which started in 2012, has left six of her family members dead, with Nomia reportedly receiving more than R1,4 million in payouts. She allegedly helped her victims take out 16 policies with various companies, listing herself as the beneficiary.

Nomia is currently on trial in the high court in Palm Ridge and has pleaded not guilty to six counts of murder, eight counts of conspiracy to murder, four counts of fraud and a charge of obstruction of justice.

She’s even accused of having tried to have her mother killed.

A chilling video of how the former police woman was nabbed was played in court. Nomia is sitting in the passenger seat and hands a two-litre bottle of petrol to the driver of the car, explaining to him and another passenger in the backseat that they must use the petrol to burn down her sister’s house and make sure that her sister, Joyce, and her five young children all die in the blaze.

She tells the men that her nieces and nephews – the youngest of whom was five months old – can’t be allowed to live.
