After an 18-month legal battle with ex Katlego Maboe, Monique Muller says she wants to help other women empower themselves

SHE felt a sense of relief when she walked out of the Cape Town magistrate’s court, glad that her nearly 18-month legal drama with her ex was over.

After spending hundreds of thousands of rands on legal fees and facing a barrage of public criticism, Monique Muller was ready to put it all behind her and move forward.

But her relief was short-lived: the same day that she and TV presenter Katlego Maboe, father of her young son, reached an agreement to drop their legal action against each other, social media exploded – just as it did when all the drama began.

And Monique was the target once again.

“What she did is despicable and mean,” one person wrote. “May her future be destroyed just as she destroyed his.”

Back in October 2020, a video was leaked online in which a furious Monique confronts Katlego, who’s dressed in a bathrobe, and he admits to cheating on her.

The video – together with allegations of domestic violence – led to the popular presenter disappearing from TV screens, and many of his fans and social media users took his side.

In the days that followed, Monique filed for a protection order against Katlego and he retaliated by taking out a protection order against her.

Both cases were set aside in court last month.

His publicist, Lerato Maleswena, issued a statement following the ruling that said Katlego (35) had been absolved of allegations of alleged misconduct, and his fans immediately congratulated him.

But Monique (31) says “absolved” isn’t quite right.

“The agreement was that we were withdrawing from each other’s lives, that we’ll leave each other alone and move on,” she says.
