Capetonian Michaela Fay has hits such as Love on Repeat and Calling Out Your Name with Shimza under her belt, while her latest track, Up All Night with Moonga K, is blowing up the airwaves.
We caught up with the 29-year-old to find out more.
Tell us about your new track and what it was like to work with R&B star Moonga K?
Moonga is an absolute force – his voice is unbelievable and so organic. I was like, “I have to get into the studio with this guy”, and it all just came together. It took about three hours for us to write the whole song, which is a testament to the synergy we had. He’s primarily into R&B and I grew up listening to a lot of R&B, so he just brought out a part of me I wanted to explore.
The song is about that feeling of hopelessness when a loved one is going through something and we want to help but then realising that telling that person what to do isn’t what they want. They just want a shoulder to cry on.
What did you listen to growing up?
