Angelababy Is Going Places

Away from her ever-youthful looks, the model-turned-actress is now ready to reveal a more mature side of herself

In another life, Angelababy would have liked the idea of being a detective — “like Conan,” she muses, living knee-deep in suspense, solving cases, and unraveling mysteries. Or she might have been an astronaut, exploring distant galaxies and uncharted planets. “I have always been curious about astronomy, and dreamed of going to the moon to explore a whole new world out there,” she says. And really, both sound like equally plausible vocations for the creative actress as part of her colourful resume.

Would sleuthing be a right fit? Her multiple successful roles in various crime thrillers make for a credible case: Like Tian Xiaomai in the mind-boggling murder mystery, Kill Time that spans across multiple eras; or Zhong Meibao in a nerve-racking whodunit drama A Murderous Affair in Horizon Tower, where her portrayal of a forlorn victim even earned praises of her performance as being sincere and natural. It is hardly surprising, then, to learn that Zhong is a character that is closest in spirit to Angelababy. She says: “The female solidarity that the character exudes throughout various experiences will resonate with many women in real life, in addition to her bravery and perseverance.”
