When Marriages End Up In Murders...

Every third woman in India is suffering from physical, emotional and sexual abuse within their marriages. When will this gender-based, domestic violence end? A marriage is indeed a gamble but how far do the stakes go?

The secret of a happy marriage is finding the right person. You know they are right when you like to be with them all the time-Julia Child. But what happens when marriages turn into battlegrounds and end up in cold-bloodied murders. But what happens when the sacredness in a marriage dissolves into bitterness and hatred. But what happens when the seven pheras around the fire god turns into a noose around the neck of the wife. What happens when the sacred vows of marriage turn into ugly threats and cuss words? What happens when the hands which are meant to support the wife in every step and challenge of life actually starts raising itself to hit the woman in the matrimony? Domestic violence is raising its ugly head in our society ever since the institution of marriage came into existence. But all said and done it is still rampant and is continuing to claim lives of young women who feel helpless and trapped in loveless marriages which are more of a punishment for them rather than a match made in heaven.

Are marriages really made in heaven?

Well, some marriages definitely seem to be made in hell because it ends up with in the grave of the woman in question. Crimes against women is the fastest growing crime in India. India’s National Crime Records Bureau has stated that a crime is reported against women every three minutes. Every six hours a young woman is beaten to death over dowry, is burnt or driven to suicide.
