From listening to vinyl to her favourite restaurant in LA, the Hollywood actress reveals what makes her tick
I love living in LA. Because I’ve got SAD [seasonal affective disorder], it’s so wonderful to know when you go home that it’s going to be sunny. I grew up in Newcastle. When you’re from a place it’s always in your heart, whether you go there on a regular basis or not.
Growing up, there were few female actresses getting the opportunity to play a huge and diverse array of characters, so the people I ended up admiring were guys. I was in the Newcastle suburbs, so I didn’t have access to much high culture, but I did have people like Peter Sellers – and reruns of Porridge with Ronnie Barker. There was never an actor I wanted to be, I just wanted to be a whole bunch of people, so I ended up being an actress!
