Having A Moment - Tatiana Maslany
In Stronger you play Erin, the girlfriend of 2013 Boston Marathon bombing victim Jeff Bauman (Jake Gyllenhaal). Did you have any reservations about taking on the role so soon after the atrocity?
‘I did. The story scared me in that it was so personal. We were filming it while the 2016 Boston Marathon was on and there was a sense that the attack was still so raw. But the movie quickly focuses on Jeff and the human lives affected.’
We don’t often see films that explore the love lives of disabled people…
‘I think we’re moving towards greater representation of those who experience disability. I hope that as films like this one get made, casting directors reach out to actors with disabilities who can tell us about their stories with depth and understanding.’
