Baryta Carbonica

Barium carbonate (BaCO3) is a white crystalline chemical compound which is odorless and occurs in nature as witherite. Witherite is the main source of all the barium salts. It can be prepared from its ore or by the reaction of barium sulfide with sodium carbonate. It does not dissolve in water but reacts with acids to make other barium salts. Uses: It is used in rat poison, in making bricks, pottery, ceramic glazes and cement industries. Barium carbonate is mainly used in glass and ceramics industry as a glaze. It is used as a flux, matting agent and crystallizing agent. When it is combined with some coloring oxides it produces unique colors.

A homeopathic medicine is prepared through the process of trituration of the barium carbonate crystals with sugar of milk.

Constitution: Especially adapted to complaints of first and second childhood; the psoric or tubercular. Old, cachetic people; scrofulous, especially when fat; or those who suffer from gouty complaints (Fluor. ac.). Apoplectic tendency in old people; complaints of old drunkards; headache of aged people, who are childish.
