PRIME Magazine|December 2017 - January 2018

The prevalence of chronic diseases such as Diabetes mellitus, high blood pressure and high cholesterol has been on the rise in Singapore. Chronic diseases exert a high socioeconomic burden on our society. If left unchecked, these can lead to serious complications such as ischemic heart disease, kidney problems and stroke which will affect our quality of life, not to mention the high medical bills that will be incurred.

Health Screening Prevents Chronic Diseases

The Ministry of Health has constantly emphasised the importance of regular health screenings. This allows for early detection of chronic diseases and for early treatment and intervention, so as to prevent the development of serious complications in future. Regular health screenings also allows the early detection of cancers affecting the breast, colorectum and cervix. Patients can then be referred early for specialist treatment which improves survival outcomes.
