When artist Deborah Pook was house hunting, she was looking for a property that ticked two boxes. She wanted a home with a large living area, where both she and her two sons, Corin, now 18, and Daniel, 15, could entertain friends, and a room full of natural light that would serve as her new painting studio.
‘It wasn’t the architecture that sold me on this property,’ explains Deborah. ‘This is a new-build home, and I bought it for its location and abundant light levels. It’s built in a conservation area, in an elevated position and looks out over the surrounding fields. The views are fantastic, plus, the interior space is great, too.’
With its large hallway, a generous picture window over the stairs and a huge, bright living area that opens right out on to the garden, the house had the potential to double as a studio space for Deborah. Plus, as it was not completely finished when she bought it, she had some say over the fixtures and fittings. This meant that, unlike many new-build properties, she was able to put her own stamp on it right from the beginning.
