For discerning homeowners like Subashini, finding the right design team is no easy feat. Luckily, she met the DISTINCTidENTITY team soon after she started looking for someone to design and renovate her HDB maisonette in Hougang.
The concept that Subashini and her husband Prakash had in mind was inspired by black and white colonial houses, and they wanted a home that would also fit her family’s lifestyle.
It proved to be the right decision, as the design team was able to deliver their dream home in just eight weeks. The renovation cost around $70,000, not including furnishings, and the homeowners moved in during the last week of July 2021.
We chat with the design team to find out what went into the design process.
Can you tell us more about the style of the home?
Suba shared that they like bold and statement interior design styles — their previous home was decorated in a modern resort feel. They wanted this home to incorporate their flamboyant personalities and balance it with the monochromatic elements of colonial houses. What they had in mind was re-creating a black and white British colonial bungalow, and what better way to incorporate statement pieces with bold black elements?
The open kitchen stands out with the vivid blue, though. What were the requirements for that space?
