WHO LIVES HERE? Jette Egelund is co-owner of Danish design company Vipp. Her husband Mogens Dahl is a conductor and founder of Mogens Dahl Concert Hall.
THE PROPERTY An open-plan converted apartment spread over two floors in a former pencil factory on Islands Brygge in Copenhagen, Denmark.
Set across the top two floors of a former pencil factory, with views of the Copenhagen skyline to one side and Islands Brygge harbour on the other, Jette Egelund’s stunning penthouse apartment is flooded with natural light. Part of a 1930s industrial building that was once home to Jette’s family business, the 340 square metre space was converted into an apartment in 2019. Having previously lived downstairs, Jette’s familiarity with the building and how the light changed throughout the day was in her mind when she started to plan the layout, arranging the living spaces to make the most of the natural light. ‘Having an open-plan scheme was the optimal way of bringing light into the space,’ says Jette. ‘We even moved the kitchen from one corner to the other to follow the sun.’
