‘We Gave An Ugly House A Miami Inspired Makeover'
Ideal Home UK|November 2019
Jackie and Rhod Finn took a boring box of a property and transformed it into a fabulous, mid-century-inspired piece of architecture
‘We Gave An Ugly House A Miami Inspired Makeover'
The house has been elongated with a side extension over what was the garage and the exterior redesigned with balconies, new windows, a flat roof and fresh white render

Jackie and Rhod Finn had been looking to move within Winchester for two years when they saw this house. ‘We made an offer, which was rejected, so we decided to sell our property and rent for a while. We then heard that the sale had fallen through, so approached the owners again and luckily we got it.’

SEEING THE POSITIVES

‘It looked like a school science block,’ says Jackie, ‘but had a really nice feel inside. The layout and the light levels were great.’ The decor was dated, but the structure was sound and the couple loved its secluded location: ‘We liked the fact that it’s on a spur road,’ says Jackie. ‘I’d always said I didn’t want a house where the main garden was at the front, which this has, but here, that’s not an issue from a privacy perspective.’

The colourful kitchen is filled with light through full-width sliding exterior doors that open out onto the garden
