Crystals are having a major moment in skincare. But do they actually work or are they just a shiny gimmick?
It started with 24K gold and pearl extracts. Now, quartz and diamond powders are creepin’ into the skincare ingredient list. It’s as though these beauty companies had a crystal ball of their own. One after another, Herbivore Botanicals, Kora Organics, Glossier and Colourpop, all began incorporating crystals in their products and here we are, defeating dull skin not just with glycolic acids, but also hints of pink quartz. #TeamCLEO chats with the skincare labels bringing crystal-infused products to the forefront to shine a light on this burgeoning trend.
ROSE-TINTED GLASSES
When supermodel Miranda Kerr’s skincare line Kora Organics launched its Heart Chakra Aromatherapy Oil which gets filtered through a rose quartz and claims to nurture and open one’s heart chakra, it also opened up the conversation around the use of crystals in beauty products.
“It’s more than skincare, it’s about a holistic way to nurture your mind, body and spirit, so for me it was important for my products to not only deliver results but also carry a positive energy,” explained Miranda. She counts rose quartz as her crystal of choice. “It carries a beautiful soothing energy to encourage love, self-esteem, acceptance and forgiveness of ourselves and others. That’s why I chose to include it as a key ingredient.”
