Pregnancy doesn’t have to mean the end of your sex life. Yes, you heard that right. Chirag Mohanty Samal gets experts to clear the air and sifts the facts from the myths.
Fear is likely to be a big part of your pregnancy. Old wives’ tales and advice from misinformed but well-meaning friends can put the brakes on your sex life, among other fun things. Thankfully, science doesn’t take the same killjoy view. According to a study published in the Health Science Journal by Ob-Gyn Dr Maria Kontoyannis, “As long as no health issues are involved, sexual intercourse during pregnancy is safe.” What’s more, sex during pregnancy can actually be good for you. “It is good for your body, your heart rate, and your relationship,” says sex educator and best-selling author Lou Paget, whose book Hot Mamas focuses on dispelling the doubts of mothers-to-be. We speak to Indian doctors and experts to tell you how to stay happy and satisfied through your pregnancy.
Go For The Big O Tonight
If your doctor has confirmed that there are no complications such as a low-lying placenta, risk of pre-term labour nor any history of leakage in your pregnancy, then go for it. Dr Mahesh Nawal, sexologist, sex therapist, and president of ASECT (Association of Sexuality Educators, Counsellors and Therapists), says, “You can skip the sex in the first trimester because that’s when the implantation of the egg happens. It’s a delicate stage and exertion can lead to miscarriage. Once you are into your fourth month there’s no reason why you shouldn’t have sex.” Here are four reasons why pregnancy is the best time to do it.
